“The Glide” – from Tom Proctor

Good AM friends and Happy Birthday America "The Glide" has been idle for about 1-1/2 years however there are some important issues the club needs your help with.

1st a little on what has been happening: Andy did a great job of arranging another Costa Rica Trip. Ten of us enjoyed eight days of waist to head high surf in the as usual warm February water. Everyone dubbed my roommate Keith & me "Felix & Oscar." I'm still looking for my red board shorts. I think Felix used them as a cloth to clean-up the mess he made repairing his board with mixture of resin, fiberglass & rocks. I feel he threw them away so I wouldn't find out.

Our "Socializing Surfers" events have been well attended and we certainly do thank and appreciate all who have opened their homes and prepared food for the get-togethers.

Our 2nd safari to the Cocoa Beach area was a big hit. There were 30 or so members and guest that made the trip. A BIG THANKS to Will & Karen Lucas for their gracious hospitality and throwing a great party on Saturday evening. If you haven't seen the pictures on our photo page, please do.

Changes made by Gill & Jim to the Surf CAM has the picture refreshing every 2-3 seconds for the most part. Look for you Website and Surf Cam enhancement - a special thanks to Gill and Sally.

There was surf for the last 3 days - Thursday afternoon, Friday AM & Saturday AM. I mention this because as we all know this hasn't been the best start to summer.

The annual reunion will be held on over the weekend of September 16-18 - the dinner will be held Saturday 9/17 at the Exchange Club on IOP.

Now for the issues:

Elimination of IOP on-street parking from Breach Inlet to The Wind Jammer - The city of IOP will be meeting in the next few weeks to discuss and possibly vote on an ordinance that would eliminate parking on the streets south of the Wind Jammer. As I understand they are considering plowing down the dunes where the paths are today and replacing them with parking lots. This would practically eliminate access to the beach not only for surfers but would adversely affect EVERYONE wanting to "go to the beach". All the members will be notified via eMail when we get a date for the meeting. I am requesting everyone attend the meeting if possible. I'd like to have a big CCSC turnout in support of defeating the ordinance.

Surf Cam Sponsorships - By far the biggest source of CCSC's revenue comes from our Wed Cam Sponsors. We have lost 2 possibly 3 and we are adding (6) additional spots that will outline Andy's daily surf report. During May 2011 the Surf CAM had 13,748,155 hits and I'm positive based on the trend over the last two years will be over 20,000,000 hits during hurricane season. From May 2010 thru May 2011 there was never a month with less than 2,565,571 hits. These are pretty impressive numbers. The club needs your help in referring companies that may be interested in a purchasing a sponsorship. They can contact me, our Webmaster or any of the Board of Directors - eMail addresses are available on our Contact page.
